The department of Economics was established in 1998. Initially it was a general subject for F.Y., S.Y. and T.Y.B.A. level. Since the academic year 2003-04 the subject taught at special level for B.A. the department has actively participated in research activity. The M.A. Economics has been started from the academic year 2009-10. To generate the sense of research among the Students University of Pune has started a compulsory paper on Research Methodology and Project Work for T.Y.B.A. students since the academic year 2010-11.

  • Priority area of research

The priority areas of the research are Agriculture, Labour and Development Economics.

Achievements
  • The University Grants Commission, New Delhi has sanctioned us a National Seminar on Economics and Quality of Higher Education in the Context of Changing Labour Market in India.
  • Mrs. J.R.Singer has completed minor research project funded by B.C.U.D. University of Pune.
  • Dr. O. J. Rasal is awarded Ph.D. in Economics by Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune in 2011.
Future plan
  • Proposed to undertake the project of Planning Commission, Government of India on Interstate Analysis of Farmers Suicides: Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with Post Graduate Department of Economics, Ahmednagar College Ahmednagar.
  • Proposed to conduct International Seminar on The Structural Transformation during the Post Reforms Period in India.
  • Professional courses in the field of Banking, Share Market.
  • To affiliate with the Indian Council for Social Science Research.
  • To collaborate with different NGOs for social empowerment of the weaker section of the society.
